Costume Contest RulesRegistration for each contestant will be held at the information booth at the entrance to Pensacola Para Con Comic Convention/ Pensacola Comic Convention . There is no limit to the number of contestants. Please register early in order to ensure entrance into the contest. All participants will be required to sign a permission/release/waiver form to participate in the costume contest. Minors under 18 years of age may participate in the costume contest only if a permission/release/waiver form is signed by the minor’s legal guardian. You must sign these forms in order to participate. No signature – no entry. Parents are required to accompany children 13 years of age and younger during the costume contest. Contests will be judged on accuracy, creativity, and presentation. No electrical power connections will be provided. If your costume requires power, it must be part of your costume design. Public nudity is illegal in Florida. Please remember that children will be present in the audience. No dangerous or potentially dangerous props will be allowed. No pyrotechnics, live flames, or smoke generators of any kind. No real weapons of any kind are allowed. This includes air soft guns, paintball guns, and steel weapons. Compliance with Pensacola Para Con Comic Convention/ Pensacola Comic Convention weapons policy is expected. Contestants violating this rule will be immediately disqualified, as well as any other repercussions for violating weapons policy. All awards presented are at the judges’ discretion. All participants will be allotted up to 15 seconds to present their costumes for the judges and audience to see. Participants may not go over this time limit. Pensacola Para Con Comic Convention/ Pensacola Comic Convention isn’t responsible for lost or damaged property. By entering the costume contest, you agree to the costume contest rules and attendance policy.

What the costume weapons policy?All costume weapons must conform to state and federal law. Weapons must be easily distinguishable from real weapons. All prop firearms must have an orangecap on the barrel. Weapons which are capable of firing (Nerf guns, bows, etc) must be rendered inoperable. Projectiles are forbidden. Metal weapons (with or without sharp edges) are not permitted. Prop weapons should be made of lightweight materials such as foam, cardboard, or plastic. All props must be peacebonded by the Pensacola Para Con Comic Convention/ Pensacola Comic Convention staff. After inspection, each prop will have a tag attached to indicate it is unusable as a weapon, and safe for display. Peacebonding is mandatory. Do not brandish weapons or props in a threatening manner. Be aware of how security personnel may interpret your actions. Keep weapons in convention areas. If you leave the con premises, please put away any weaponry (even if it clearly looks fake).
